After the Tsunami of December 26, 2004 the Sisters of Charity chose to open a community in Nias with the aim of working for the promotion of women. In fact, on the island, families live on the products of the earth and often do not have enough goods and resources that allow them to send their daughters to study. Combined marriages and the consequent dowry paid by the groom’s family are often the solution also to serious economic difficulties. To help young girls to have a greater awareness of themselves, of their abilities, to build a better future and a more dignified life, the Sisters of Charity welcome about 15 girls who help to grow and study until they have a diploma.
