Pakse: The presence of the Sisters of Charity in Laos dates back to 1934, the year of the canonization of st. Giovanna Antida.
The purpose of the arrival was to offer support and charitable works in the most needy areas: teaching and education of youth, opening of nursery schools for orphans and abandoned children. Thus, in urban centers, primary schools and orphanages quickly opened.
In 1975, with the political changes, the sisters had to leave all these works to take care of the Christians in the villages scattered on the territory and to share the simple life of the people of the countryside.
Currently the sisters are present in 14 communities, in sectors located around the 5 urban centers: Luangphrabang, Vientiane, Thakhek, Savannakhet and Pakse
In Pakse we are called to provide accommodation and scooling … to many girls and children including some who were orphaned due to the collapse of the dam which destroyed entire villages causing the death of many people on 24 July 2018.
