Letters from the Missions
in the general house, 22 October Reading in a loud voice the letters of the missionary sisters who left around the middle of the twentieth century: departures full on missionary passion, nostalgia, interminable journeys, often in incredible conditions, arrivals in countries unknown from every point of view, challenging times of integration and first initiatives of evangelisation. The sisters, from various European countries, left for very remote destinations: Laos, Paraguay, Chad, the Central African Republic…

From the letters of the sisters, a profound and grateful sense of wonder shines through, and a joyful spirit of trust in God, with the missionary pride of following in the footsteps of the Foundress, Mother Thouret, ‘who would have crossed the seas if she had known that God wanted her there. With the professional skills of two actresses, Orietta Bosisio from Erba and Rebecca Sisti from Siena, in the refectory of the general house a profound silence filled with emotion enveloped the audience, and their minds flew to distant lands and distant times. The music of the African continent and Indonesian songs offered the soul time to immerse itself in those moments of life filled with faith and charity. At the end of the evening, a delicious Indonesian and Chinese dinner concluded the missionary atmosphere.
